New cellphone

Since I got a laptop with Bluetooth, I figured I now need a new cell phone capable of Bluetooth and EDGE connectivity.

I don't like Captain Kirk flip phones. I had one of the first Star-tac's and frankly they're annoying. Since then I've only had Nokia. 5160, 6190, 8290, and my latest phone a 6610. But Nokia has recently succumbed to the dark side of the force, and thinks they need to make Captain Kirk communicators to compete with Motorola's offerings. As such, they've stopped making good phones. Or at least they phones they sell through T-Mobile and such are no good.

So I'd been looking around for quite some time for a phone which was small, made phone calls(something of a low priority these days it seems), and had bluetooth and EDGE. I had considered getting the T-Mobile SDA, but do I really need all the features it has?

Then today, I saw this:

Witness the Samsung t509.

This baby is 9mm thin, a bit taller than my 6610 and the same width. The screen on it is incredible. The buttons and navigation are the easiest I've ever seen on a phone. It's got Bluetooth, EDGE. Has a camera I'll hardly ever use. Apparently has 70 Megs of RAM internally.(based on one blurb I read) Still has reasonable battery life, and weighs hardly anything.

Best part. $50 after rebates.

We'll see how durable it is in the long run, but I'm looking forward to it when it arrives next week.
